From Packaging to the Screen: Shopify Relaunch for Chio with a Product-Specific Color Scheme
A Shopify store that looks just like the product in the supermarket.
View websiteChio is one of Germany’s best-known snack brands: from potato chips to intensely spicy tortillas to popcorn. For the online presence, the brand didn’t need to be reinvented, but rather thought through to its logical conclusion: Each product package already conveys its own visual language, color scheme, and tactile feel. We translated this language 1:1 to Shopify, including a standalone country site for Switzerland.
Design derived directly from the packaging—new for every product
Instead of a rigid template for all product pages, each Chio product page has its own color scheme, derived directly from the respective packaging. The hot chili tortillas come in bold red, the bell pepper chips in yellow—each variety in “its” own color. In addition, design elements from the packaging—icons, shapes, textures, and typographic details—were specifically adapted for the website. As a result, each product page feels like a digital extension of the packaging on the shelf: instantly recognizable, yet still part of a cohesive brand identity.
For brands with a large, diverse product portfolio, this is a key advantage: it allows for individuality at the product level without compromising brand consistency—and without having to design a completely new page from scratch for every new variant, because the design system accounts for this variability from the very beginning.
A separate national subsidiary, a separate product line, the same foundation
In addition to the German site, we’ve launched a standalone Shopify store for the Swiss subsidiary with its own product lineup. It uses the same design system and brand identity, but is tailored to local products and market needs. For brands that are growing internationally or through multiple subsidiaries, this shows the way forward: a shared technical and design foundation that can be flexibly adapted to each market, rather than starting from scratch for every country.
Shopify as the Single Source of Truth for Product Master Data
Both stores—in Germany and Switzerland—run on Shopify, specifically because of the ease of management within the CMS. Product master data, product information, and changes to the product lineup can be managed centrally without marketing or category management having to wait for development resources. New variants, seasonal promotions, or product line adjustments can thus go live quickly while maintaining consistent design quality, because the system automatically incorporates product-specific color schemes and packaging elements.
That's exactly what makes Shopify appealing to growing brands: a CMS that lets marketing teams work independently, combined with a custom theme that doesn't sacrifice brand identity for a one-size-fits-all solution.
Modular Website for a Growing Product Line
The website showcases the entire Chio product line, organized by category—tortillas, chips, and popcorn—with each variety featuring its own unique packaging design. The modular structure allows Chio to add new products, promotions, and categories on its own at any time, ensuring that the site remains up-to-date at all times.

Flexibility of the website: Design for multi-device use
The main focus was on developing a mobile-optimized website, as the target group is predominantly on smartphones. This ensured a smooth and appealing user experience on mobile devices.
